‘Schroder Capital Global Venture Investment and AI Utilization Seminar’
“Focused Investment in Tech, AI, and Bio Ventures”

Schroder Capital, the private asset specialist brand of Schroder Group, emphasized that "the potential value created through generative artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud technology is $4 trillion (approximately 5,300 trillion KRW)" and highlighted the importance of early-stage investment in AI startups.

On the 30th, Steven Yang, Head of Venture Investment at Schroder Capital, stated at the '2024 Schroder Capital Global Venture Investment and AI Utilization Seminar' held at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, "We have invested in 8 out of the top 10 generative AI startups and 52 out of the top 100 AI startups," emphasizing this point.

Yang explained, "The global venture capital (VC) market is returning to normal after overheating during the COVID-19 period," adding, "So far, AI investment accounts for only about 10% of total VC investments, approximately $50 billion (about 67 trillion KRW)." He further noted, "AI will have a significant impact on everyone's life worldwide. Given the confirmed scale of its potential value, this is a very important investment opportunity that comes once every ten years."

As of the first quarter, Schroder Capital manages $1.2 billion (about 1.6 trillion KRW) in venture and growth sectors. It has recovered funds from a total of 20 co-investments. Notably, it has recovered over $1 billion from investments in decacorn and unicorn companies such as Google, Facebook, Spotify, Tesla, Uber, Roblox, Airbnb, and X (Twitter).

Yang introduced, "The Schroder Capital Global Innovation Fund focuses on key investment themes including ▲Tech (SaaS, cybersecurity, fintech, etc.) ▲AI (large language models, generative AI, etc.) ▲Pharmaceuticals & Bio (new drug discovery platforms, obesity treatments, etc.)." He continued, "Schroder Capital allocates more than 50% of its annual managed funds to direct or co-investments in fundamentally strong companies or early-stage investments with over 50 global top-tier investment partners (GPs)," adding, "We conduct over 100 co-investments across the global venture and growth private asset markets."

At the seminar, Schroder Capital's AI platform 'GAiiA' was also introduced. Since launching its first AI tool in 2015, Schroder has integrated AI into investments through 'Genie,' a ChatGPT for Schroder employees, and GAiiA, a generative AI investment analyst.

Genie performs tasks such as meeting minutes preparation, document summarization, idea generation, article and email drafting and review, and content translation. GAiiA, launched by Schroder Capital in May, incorporates AI-powered assistants and investment analysts. Jonas Klass, AI Data Science Analyst, emphasized, "Schroder Capital portfolio managers can enhance work efficiency through GAiiA and focus on creating high added value," adding, "By strengthening investment analysis capabilities and data utilization skills, we will deliver outstanding returns to clients."

Schroder Capital plans to improve GAiiA's technology for investment summaries, financial model analysis, and investment insights, applying it to primary and secondary investments and expanding it to other private asset classes.

Jung Eun-su, CEO of Schroder Korea, stated, "Schroder Group is a pioneer in AI and data science in terms of asset management and technology utilization," adding, "We will closely monitor global market trends to ensure that Schroder Group's leading technology and Schroder Capital's private asset management capabilities provide good opportunities for domestic investors."

Meanwhile, Schroder Group has actively expanded its private market sector since 2015 in response to the growth of the global private market, managing assets in private equity, real estate, private loans and credit, and infrastructure based on sustainability and impact investing. Schroder Capital has established partnerships with top-tier VCs in the tech and healthcare sectors across the U.S., Asia, and Europe to discover investment opportunities. As of the end of Q2 this year, assets under management (AUM) stand at $97.3 billion (approximately 130 trillion KRW).
