“Dog (犬) Reformation?” Gangbuk-gu Offers Free Pet Dog Behavior Correction Training

Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) will conduct dog behavior correction training in the second half of 2024 for residents struggling with problem behaviors of their companion dogs.

The training courses include △ Visiting Dog Behavior Correction Training 'Chajagalgae' △ Group Training 'Oechulhalgae' △ Newly added this year, 'Gidarilgae', totaling three courses, all of which are free of charge.

'Chajagalgae' will be conducted from September to October for a total of 25 households. A professional trainer will provide one-on-one solutions by analyzing various problem behaviors such as barking, aggression, separation anxiety, toileting, and walking after two home visits following a preliminary phone consultation.

'Oechulhalgae' will be held on October 7 at the Gangbuk-gu Dog Playground in Bukseoul Dream Forest for 14 households. It teaches ‘lead walking’ and ‘parallel walking’ to help dogs have comfortable walks for households having difficulty going out due to barking, aggression, and other issues.

Lastly, 'Gidarilgae', a newly added course this year, will select 14 households and provide bonding education and basic obedience training between owners and their dogs at the Gangbuk-gu Dog Playground in Bukseoul Dream Forest on October 14 and October 21, over two sessions.

Applications for 'Chajagalgae' start from 9 AM on September 2, and for ‘Oechulhalgae’ and ‘Gidarilgae’ from 9 AM on September 9 through the Gangbuk-gu website. Single-person households aged 65 or older can also apply by phone. Due to high demand, all courses will close on a first-come, first-served basis, and duplicate applications for multiple courses are not allowed.

Anyone can apply if they are the owner of a registered dog residing in Gangbuk-gu and belong to one of the following: households raising dogs with problem behaviors, households adopting abandoned dogs, or single-person elderly households raising dogs.

A satisfaction survey of households participating in the first half of this year showed a 100% satisfaction rate. The district plans to continue operating education programs for dog-raising households.

Mayor Lee Soon-hee said, "We expect that dog behavior correction training will help animals and people, as well as dog-owning and non-dog-owning households, coexist and harmonize," adding, "Gangbuk-gu will continue to strive to create a pet-friendly environment."
