Ruling Party Leadership Urges Unity of 108 Members Against Opposition... Han Dong-hoon Says "We Must Listen to Public Sentiment"

Handonghun "Democratic Party Will Hold Us Back... Advancing with Twice the Effort"
Chukyungho "Able to Handle 191 Opposition Members"… Emphasizing Research and Competence

The leadership of the People Power Party emphasized on the 29th the need for the united strength of its 108 members to stand against the opposition party in the regular National Assembly session starting on the 2nd of next month, urging them to listen to public sentiment.

Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, stated in his opening remarks at the party’s lawmakers’ workshop held under the theme "Protecting Livelihoods and Opening the Future" at the Incheon International Airport Corporation Talent Development Center in the afternoon, "108 members are not insufficient," adding, "It is time for us to show the public our capabilities and vision, to present who we are, what kind of politics we practice, and what future we will offer."

Regarding the expectation that confrontation with the opposition will continue, he said, "The Democratic Party will certainly try to hold us back. There is no need to expect otherwise," emphasizing, "However, we will move forward with twice the strength rather than being pulled backward."

As the ruling party, Han urged that answers to the difficulties of people’s livelihoods must be presented and strategies for the continued prosperity of the Republic of Korea must be devised, requesting, "Let us listen to public sentiment, respond accordingly, and convey the public’s voice to the government."

He also said, "Please engage in dialogue and discussion at the workshop on how we can regain the trust and love of the people," and stressed, "I will do my best as well. I will stand on the front lines to fight against the massive opposition party’s offensive."

Choo Kyung-ho, floor leader, also urged party members, saying, "We must demonstrate the spirit of cooperation to restore the spirit of parliamentary democracy and make the National Assembly a people’s livelihood assembly," adding, "We must consistently pursue reform tasks that open the future by presenting policy alternatives on pensions, healthcare, labor, education, and low birthrate issues."

He continued, "From government questioning sessions to standing committees, the Budget and Accounts Committee, various legislations, and the national audit, tremendous tasks await us. Our number is 108, which is smaller compared to the opposition’s 191," but he noted, "However, judging by the capabilities and passion of our lawmakers, I believe we can fully handle about 191 members."

He then requested, "We must research more intensely, deliberate, listen to the voices of the people, and based on that, demonstrate through proper and competent debates within the National Assembly that the People Power Party is a capable policy party and truly a livelihood-responsive party that properly answers public sentiment."

Kim Sang-hoon, chairman of the Policy Committee, said, "The regular National Assembly session is approaching soon, but there are still many shortcomings," and emphasized that about 130 bills promised during the general election, including extending parental leave for dual-income couples, the Special Act on the Nuclear Power Industry, the Semiconductor Industry Support Act, and the National Institution Power Grid Expansion Act, should be taken up as legislative tasks.
