Starting in September, fines will be imposed for drinking alcohol in designated alcohol-free zones in Cheonan, Chungnam.

The Cheonan city government designated and announced alcohol-free zones on September 1 last year in accordance with the "Ordinance on Creating a Sound Drinking Environment in Cheonan City." After a one-year period of guidance and publicity, full-scale enforcement will begin next month.

Possessing an open bottle of alcohol, drinking alcohol, or carrying or drinking alcohol in a container other than its original alcoholic beverage container with the container open in an alcohol-free zone will be considered acts of drinking.

Designated alcohol-free zones include the Cheonan City Hall, elementary, middle, and high schools, daycare centers, children's playgrounds, kindergartens, medical institutions, and public libraries.

A Cheonan city official stated, "We will continue our efforts to establish a safe environment free from the harms of drinking by actively promoting and guiding alcohol-free zones to encourage voluntary participation from citizens."
