Two young children were trapped in an elevator for nearly 10 hours after playing with slippers in an apartment in Malaysia.

According to foreign media such as Sin Chew Daily and Malaysiakini on the 25th (local time), an accident occurred on the 19th in an apartment in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, where two children were trapped in an elevator for over 9 hours. It was revealed that the cause of the elevator malfunction was a prank involving inserting slippers into the closing elevator doors.

In the released video, one child is seen taking off one slipper they were wearing and sticking it between the closing elevator doors. When the child tried to remove the slipper stuck between the doors, the elevator jolted and then stopped. The slipper had activated the elevator's locking mechanism.

The frightened children pressed the emergency bell inside the elevator, but there was no response. The children were trapped in the elevator for 9 hours, waiting to be rescued while crying and eventually falling asleep.

The children were found by police who responded to a report from the family that "the son had not returned home." The aunt of one of the two children said, "My 10-year-old nephew went out to buy bread around 2 p.m., but he did not return even by 10 p.m. We were very worried because the child was missing." She added, "We are glad the children returned safely."

Fortunately, it is reported that the children are in good health.

Netizens who learned about the incident reacted with comments such as "9 hours? I think I would develop claustrophobia," "Did no one check the CCTV for 9 hours?", "How did no one notice the elevator was stopped for 9 hours?", and "They should monitor the CCTV more thoroughly."
