An active-duty police officer was arrested on charges of trespassing and was handed over to the prosecution after being identified as the perpetrator of a sexual assault case that occurred 13 years ago through DNA comparison analysis.
The Eunpyeong Police Station in Seoul announced on the 28th that it had sent Mr. A, a man in his 40s, to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office on the 27th on charges of trespassing and rape. Mr. A was a police inspector belonging to the Mobile Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and was suspended from his position that day.
The police received a report in May that someone had secretly entered a karaoke room in Eunpyeong-gu after business hours, and after tracking, identified and booked Mr. A. During the investigation, the police analyzed and compared Mr. A's DNA and confirmed that it matched the DNA found at the scene of a sexual assault case that occurred 13 years ago in Gangnam, Seoul, leading to the addition of rape charges.
