A YouTuber with 1.19 million subscribers has sparked controversy by calling the 'Telegram deepfake sexual crime' incident an "overreaction."
On the 26th, YouTuber 'Ppeokka' uploaded a video titled 'Middle and High School Students' on his channel. In the video, he mocked, saying, "Recently, women have been sharing posts on social networking services (SNS) demanding 'take down all the photos of faces,'" and added, "Such an overreaction is spreading." He continued, "If you look at the people posting and spreading these photos, you can see they are sensitive to this information and actively participating," and said, "I hope you filter this from now on."
He also criticized former Democratic Party Emergency Committee Chair Park Ji-hyun, who claimed that "a national disaster situation should be declared," saying, "She came out excitedly, stirring up 220,000 people," and added, "She is very eager to fuel misandry. What kind of national disaster is this? It's crazy." He refuted the claim that 220,000 people participated in the deepfake group chat by stating, "Statistically, Korean Telegram users make up 0.33% of the global total," and "0.33% of 220,000 is only 726 people."
Furthermore, he asserted, "For issues like this, the system is already set up like a military operation. They know how to incite, how to exaggerate numbers," and "Female journalists and female politicians also come out and incite with the same rhetoric. They quickly report to foreign media, mark coordinates, and systematically work on comments." He added, "Idol X-suni know how to deal with opposing X-suni, and they are well-trained and very favorable to wasting time," and cursed, saying, "Seeing these female-dominated (community) kids inciting with nonsense about 220,000 people and national emergency measures makes me sick."
As the production and sharing of deepfake pornography in Telegram group chats have stirred the nation, Ppeokka's remarks have drawn public outrage. The comment section of the video includes criticisms not only from domestic but also international netizens, such as "Blaming women instead of the male perpetrators is insane," and "Do you not have the courage to show your face?"
Meanwhile, Ppeokka is known as a so-called 'cyber wrecker' YouTuber who discusses various online issues. He mainly uploads provocative content while covering his face with a mask. In this regard, a citizen filed a national petition on the 26th of last month, requesting, "Please strongly regulate 'cyber wreckers' who hide their faces at the National Assembly level," and the petition received over 50,000 signatures.
