Support for Foreign Language Menus at Over 2,000 General and Rest Restaurants Nationwide, the Largest Scale
Restaurants Participating in Food Policy Programs Such as Hygiene Grading, Model Restaurants, and Safe Restaurants
Busan City has selected 396 establishments as the first recipients of the 'Busan-style Restaurant Digital Foreign Language Menu Support Project.'
This selection was made from a total of 469 restaurants that applied online and offline between July 4 and 31.
The city prioritized restaurants with hygiene ratings, exemplary restaurant status, safe dining certification, Busan’s Taste designation, Michelin selection, those located near major tourist attractions, and restaurants participating in food policy projects, ultimately selecting 396 restaurants as the first batch of recipients.
The selected establishments will be sequentially provided with foreign language menus, which will be produced after verifying information such as menu names and food photos.
The foreign language menus will be available in two formats (booklet and QR code), and business owners can choose their preferred type during the application process. Translation support for unmanned ordering kiosks is also available as an additional option.
Previously, it was difficult to update menus or prices once the menu support project was completed, but this year’s project will include the development of an online platform that allows business owners to easily update their restaurant information.
In particular, this year the city plans to support 2,000 general and cafe-style restaurants, making it the largest project of its kind in the country.
The second round of applications has closed and is currently under review, while applications for the third round are open until September 30.
Restaurants wishing to receive foreign language menu support can apply by visiting the relevant district or county office or related organizations, or by submitting an online form by September 30.
Business owners who have difficulty applying online can visit the district or county Environmental Hygiene Department, the Busan branch of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association, or the Busan branch of the Cafe Foodservice Association to apply in person.
Lee Sora, Director of the Busan City Public Health Bureau, stated, “We hope that this foreign language menu support project will be a practical help to restaurant owners who have felt the burden of communicating with foreign customers. We will expedite the related procedures so that many foreign tourists can experience foreign language menus at the selected restaurants as soon as possible.”
