Dobong-gu Holds Farewell Ceremony for Youth Overseas Internship Departure on the 23rd
Four Interns Attend... District Mayor Owen Seok Attends to Encourage Them
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) held a farewell ceremony for young participants departing for overseas internships on the 23rd at the Dobong-gu Mayor’s Office.
The ceremony was attended by Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, along with four participants preparing to depart for the United States within the year for their overseas internships.
The farewell event lasted about 40 minutes, proceeding in the order of the mayor’s greeting, a conversation with the young interns, and a commemorative photo session.
In his greeting, Mayor Oh Eon-seok encouraged the participants, saying, “Although you may face difficulties in unfamiliar cultures, languages, and different environments, I believe that with your spirit of challenge and capabilities, you will overcome any obstacles,” and added, “I hope that this overseas internship experience will serve as a stepping stone for you to take a leap forward.”
During the subsequent conversation, one overseas internship participant shared, “Having just graduated, I was looking for what to do next, and I am happy to have the opportunity to work as an intern in the United States with support from Dobong-gu.”
The participants also shared their requests. The young participants expressed opinions such as, “It would be great if the program is widely promoted so that many young people in Dobong-gu can benefit,” and “If there is an opportunity to form a network between interns who have already departed for the United States and those preparing to leave, it would be a great help in preparing for the internship.”
In response, Mayor Oh Eon-seok said, “Thank you for your valuable suggestions. I will do my best to ensure that these matters are realized.”
The Dobong-gu Youth Overseas Internship program supports visa issuance fees in cooperation with overseas employment agencies designated by the Korea Industrial Manpower Corporation, enabling participants to gain internship experience at companies located in the United States.
A total of seven people are participating in this year’s internship. On August 21, Seo Ga-heun, the first participant for 2024, departed for the United States, followed by Park Min-kyung on August 26. In September, Ahn Hyun-kyung is scheduled to depart. The remaining four participants are currently being connected with local companies in the United States.
