Seodaemun-gu Operates 'Pet Dog Care Shelter' During Chuseok Holiday A pet dog is playing on the rooftop playground of the 'Seodaemun Naepumae (愛) Center.' Provided by Seodaemun-gu.

Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) will operate a "Pet Dog Care Shelter" at the "Seodaemun Naepumae (愛) Center" (333 Moraenae-ro) for 4 nights and 5 days from 9 a.m. on the 14th to 8 p.m. on the 18th of next month, which includes the weekend and the Chuseok holiday.

The center opened last April to create a happy city for pet owners and their pets, and this service has been prepared for residents who find it difficult to care for their dogs due to visiting their hometowns or other reasons.

The entrusted dogs must be pet dogs under 10kg, raised by Seodaemun-gu residents, and at least 6 months old. They must show no aggressive behavior toward people or other dogs and must be registered and vaccinated against rabies. Dogs suffering from contagious diseases or those that are pregnant or in heat are excluded.

Dogs will be safely cared for in indoor protection rooms, playrooms, and rooftop playgrounds. From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., pet sitters working in teams of three will work in two shifts, and during the night, on-duty staff will continuously monitor the dogs’ condition via closed-circuit television (CCTV). In case of illness or injury, the dogs will be immediately taken to an animal hospital for treatment.

Additionally, customized care services reflecting the owner’s requests and considering the dog’s characteristics will be provided, and owners will receive photos of their dogs twice a day for peace of mind. Those interested must call the "Seodaemun Naepumae Center" and visit the center with their dogs to apply between the 2nd and 6th of next month.

One dog per household can be entrusted for up to 4 nights and 5 days during the operation period, and the care fee is 5,000 KRW regardless of the duration. Priority will be given to residents adopting abandoned dogs, and five dogs will be selected daily based on a first-come, first-served basis and pre-survey results about the dogs. The results will be announced on the 11th of next month.

Mayor Lee Seongheon said, "This service has been prepared for those who find it difficult to care for their dogs due to visiting their hometowns, etc. For dogs sensitive to environmental changes, preparing familiar food, toys, and bedding used at home will help them adjust to shelter life."
