Survey of 1,000 Jung-gu Residents Reflects in Next Year's Work Plan
Highest Satisfaction with Promotion and Civil Complaint Services via Mobile Phones
Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) announced on the 27th that, as a result of conducting the ‘2024 District Administration Satisfaction and Policy Demand Survey’ targeting 1,000 Jung-gu residents, 93.8% of residents responded that they are satisfied with living in Jung-gu. This is an increase of 0.7 percentage points compared to the previous year.
According to Jung-gu, 9 out of 10 residents showed high satisfaction with living in Jung-gu, with notable satisfaction in the areas of ‘Safety and Security’ (89.8%), ‘Transportation’ (87.2%), and ‘Convenience Facilities’ (82.8%). Additionally, 88.4% of respondents said they would continue to live in Jung-gu even after 10 years. Interest in policies and district administration was 83.8%, and 70.5% evaluated Jung-gu as ‘doing well.’
Since November last year, Jung-gu has been promoting resident-experienced projects under the policy integration brand ‘Naepyeon Jung-gu.’ As a result, compared to the previous year, satisfaction increased by 8.6 percentage points in welfare and childcare, 9.5 percentage points in educational environment, 5.1 percentage points in safety and security, and 4.9 percentage points in natural green areas, bringing positive changes in areas closely related to residents’ daily lives, according to Jung-gu.
Looking at satisfaction by policy, promotion and civil complaint services via mobile phones received the highest rating at 86.8%. This is interpreted as a result of activating text complaint services through the ‘Jung-gu Mayor Communication Text Phone,’ which emphasizes communication with residents, and strengthening district administration promotion and media accessibility from the perspective that ‘even good policies are useless if residents do not know about them.’
The district operates various online promotion channels such as the Jung-gu Office KakaoTalk channel, YouTube, social networking services (SNS), and AlimTalk. These efforts have strengthened accessibility to district administration, resulting in an increase in interest in district administration from 73.3% to 83.5%, a rise of 10.5 percentage points.
The Jung-gu Resident Health Mileage program (85.9%) and the Senior Citizen Transportation Expense Support project (82.2%) also received high responses. The Health Mileage program provides various incentives to encourage residents to develop healthy walking habits and has established itself as a representative health guardian project. The Senior Citizen Transportation Expense Support project reduces the economic burden on seniors and positively impacts active social activities, contributing to an improved quality of life.
In the field of pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare support policies, 80.1% of respondents said these policies help their lives, an increase of 8.4 percentage points compared to last year. In particular, the childbirth and childcare support fund (80.1%) showed high satisfaction. Additionally, postpartum care costs are supported 500,000 KRW more than other autonomous districts in Seoul, which has been well received.
Meanwhile, the policy area that residents prioritized most for promotion was ‘Improvement of aging residential environments through urban development’ (48.9%). Regarding this, 64.7% responded that the ongoing policy to ease the Namsan height restriction has helped improve the residential environment.
Especially, 65.1% positively evaluated the ‘Namsan de Dessang’ project, which provides new architectural design plans to residents within the Namsan height district, and the ‘Namsan de Maison’ project, which assists with repairing aging houses in areas excluded from the height easing within the Namsan height district.
Jung-gu plans to reflect the results of this survey and its own analysis of Jung-gu residents’ living conditions in the 2025 work plan.
Mayor Kim Gil-seong stated, “This survey was an important opportunity to review the achievements of district administration at the halfway point of the 8th elected term and to hear the voices of residents. We will strengthen the parts that satisfy residents and supplement the lacking parts to do our best to always create a reliable ‘Naepyeon Jung-gu.’”
This survey was conducted over about two months from June to July through online, offline, and face-to-face interviews targeting 1,000 Jung-gu residents aged 18 and over. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
