Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) recognized the risks of electric vehicle fires and signed a 'Electric Vehicle Fire Prevention and Response Work Agreement' on the 26th to strengthen cooperation with related organizations in the area.

This agreement was prepared to respond to the consecutive electric vehicle fire accidents in areas such as Cheongna International City in Incheon and to create a safe living environment for residents. The signing ceremony was held at the Dongdaemun-gu Office, attended by Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Dongman Kang, Chief of Dongdaemun Fire Station, and Youngjae Go, Chief of Dongdaemun Police Station.

The main contents of the agreement include ▲supporting necessary resources and manpower in case of electric vehicle fires ▲establishing an emergency contact network among institutions ▲establishing a role-sharing plan for fire response ▲jointly conducting electric vehicle fire response drills (training) at least once a year ▲mutual sharing of information necessary for electric vehicle fire prevention and response.

Dongdaemun-gu plans to invest about 10 million KRW from the district disaster management fund to support all patrol vehicles belonging to the Dongdaemun Police Station with special extinguishing equipment for lithium battery fires.

On the same day, a model electric vehicle fire demonstration was held on the 5th floor Sodamdeul of the district office, hosted by the Dongdaemun Fire Station. Ilpyeong Lee, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, who attended the demonstration, said, “Although it was a small model, the electric vehicle fire demonstration showed that it is difficult to extinguish with just a fire extinguisher, and in the event of an actual fire, a lot of toxic gas is generated, making it very dangerous. Once a comprehensive government-level electric vehicle plan is announced, we will establish a comprehensive fire prevention plan and actively respond to electric vehicle fires by additionally preparing necessary equipment.”

The district plans to conduct electric vehicle fire response training for apartment management officials at the district office auditorium on September 6.
