Goryeong County Ships First Cherry Tomatoes from Rental Smart Farm

Sweat and Effort of Six Young Farmers

The lease-type smart farm located in Dasan-myeon, Goryeong-gun announced the first shipment of cherry tomatoes on the 26th.

At the Goryeong-gun lease-type smart farm, six young farmers who were selected through a public recruitment process have been leasing the facilities since July this year to cultivate tomatoes. Among them, two farms have started shipping their tomatoes.

The owner of one of the farms that shipped tomatoes that day said, "Because we started planting early during this summer's scorching heat, managing the crops was more challenging than usual. However, thanks to the state-of-the-art smart facilities, we were able to precisely control the environment and harvest high-quality tomatoes. I am happy to see the crops grow well as a result of our hard work, and it is an honor to be the first to ship tomatoes from Goryeong-gun."

Lee Namcheol, the mayor of Goryeong-gun, encouraged the young farmers who endured a difficult summer due to record-breaking heatwaves and abnormal weather this year, saying, "I hope the tomatoes you have carefully cultivated will be shipped to the market at good prices and that you will be fully rewarded for your efforts."

The mayor added, "This first shipment of tomatoes marks a successful first step for both the Goryeong-gun lease-type smart farm and the young tenant farmers. Goryeong-gun will continue to support and manage the spread of advanced smart farms in the region and actively work to revitalize rural communities by attracting young agricultural talent."
