Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon is speaking about integrity at the "Integrity Promise Illuminating the Future of Korea, Gyeonggi Integrity Connection Festa" held on the 26th at Dasan Hall, Gyeonggi Provincial Government.
Gyeonggi Province has attempted to implement integrity education incorporating various cultural contents, moving away from heavy and formal frameworks, following last year’s initiative.
On the 26th, Gyeonggi Province held the ‘Integrity Promise Illuminating the Future of Korea, Gyeonggi Integrity Connection Festa’ at Dasan Hall in the provincial government office.
To break away from formal integrity education, following last year’s ‘2023 Integrity Live Opening Change and Opportunity’ which utilized various cultural contents such as pansori performances, this year’s event was attended by about 400 people including provincial government employees, public institutions within the province, and members of the Integrity Society Public-Private Council.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon of Gyeonggi Province introduced an anecdote about Dasan Jeong Yak-yong, who once served as a secret royal inspector in the Gyeonggi region and submitted a memorial stating, “To uphold the nation’s discipline and integrity properly, integrity must start from the king’s close aides.”
Governor Kim said, “My first schedule after being elected governor was visiting the birthplace of Dasan Jeong Yak-yong in Namyangju, and a few months ago, I had the opportunity to revisit the area where Dasan was exiled for 18 years with some young public officials from Gyeonggi Province. Currently, various unsightly incidents occurring among the close aides of power and national leaders remain uncorrected. In this reality, I hope that at least in Gyeonggi Province, all public officials fulfill their duties of integrity and fairness on their own,” he emphasized.
He continued, “Integrity is the most fundamental virtue required of public officials. Without a foundation of integrity, how can one work diligently, how can one have a spirit of caring for the people, and how can one work for the nation and its citizens without selfish motives?” He added, “Starting with myself, I promise to serve in public office without shame before the people or heaven, and I want to say that I hope all public officials in Gyeonggi Province walk the same path together.”
The Gyeonggi Integrity Connection Festa was designed to help participants understand and practice integrity more easily and familiarly through interactive activities such as watching videos about power harassment produced by employees themselves and engaging in discussions to improve organizational culture and spread integrity culture.
Additionally, a play titled ‘Another Family’ themed on integrity was presented, humorously conveying various types of power harassment that can easily occur in the workplace, providing an opportunity to change perceptions about power harassment.
Before the event, Gyeonggi Province conducted an ‘Integrity Gyeonggi Realization Campaign’ together with the three major labor unions and integrity club employees at the provincial government office. Various contents were exhibited in the first-floor lobby, including integrity photo booths and anti-corruption system guides, allowing employees to reinforce and reflect on integrity. Promotional activities were also carried out, distributing integrity drip bag coffee and integrity bookmarks inscribed with integrity slogans.
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Province has established the ‘2024 Gyeonggi Province Comprehensive Integrity Improvement Promotion Plan,’ which includes 20 key tasks under four major strategies, and is implementing various integrity policies such as ▲strengthening proactive and autonomous participation in integrity activities by all employees ▲activating integrity education and promotion for empathy, communication, and understanding within the organization ▲expanding public-private communication and cooperation channels involving citizen experts ▲and conducting preventive activities against corruption factors to achieve zero corruption.
