Lee Jae-myung Tests Positive for COVID-19... Trial on 'Daejang-dong Allegations' Scheduled for 27th Also Postponed

Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, tested positive for COVID-19, causing a series of trial delays, including those related to 'violation of the Public Official Election Act,' 'subornation of perjury,' and the 'Daejang-dong incident.'

According to the legal community on the 26th, the trial date for Lee's charges of breach of trust and bribery related to Daejang-dong, Seongnam FC, and Baekhyeon-dong, which was scheduled to be heard on the 27th by the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 33 (Chief Judge Kim Dong-hyun), has been changed. Depending on Lee's recovery, the trial date on the 30th may also be postponed.


Lee tested positive for COVID-19 on the 22nd and is currently hospitalized for treatment. Following the recommendations of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, he plans to self-isolate for 24 hours after his symptoms improve.


The trial for Lee's alleged subornation of perjury, handled by the same court division, has also been postponed to the 9th of next month. The court had previously announced that the final hearing would be held on the 30th of the same month, and this schedule has not yet changed.


The trial date for Lee's charges of violating the Public Official Election Act, being heard by the Criminal Division 34 of the same court, was changed from the 23rd to the 6th of next month. Accordingly, the final hearing for this case, originally scheduled for the 6th, is expected to take place on September 20th.
