On the 26th, the National Tax Service (NTS) announced that as part of its proactive administration, it will conduct a refund retrieval for income earners from personal services such as delivery riders, academy instructors, designated drivers, personal caregivers, and bathhouse attendants. The target group consists of 1.35 million people, with an expected refund amount of 179.2 billion KRW. The NTS plans to disburse the refunds before this year's Chuseok holiday.
Income earners from personal services can use the services provided by the NTS to apply for and receive refunds for five years (2019?2023) at once without any commission fees.
For taxpayers with only personal service income below a certain income threshold, mobile refund notifications (via KakaoTalk or Naver) will be sent over two days, from the 26th to the 27th.
By clicking the 'Go to Mobile Filing' button in the notification, taxpayers can view their income and estimated refund amount for the five years (2019?2023). After entering account details on the refund inquiry screen and pressing the 'Batch Filing' button, the filing is completed. Refunds will be paid only to taxpayers who complete the refund filing. Those who file by the end of August will receive their refunds before Chuseok, while filings made after September will be paid by the end of the month following the filing.
An NTS official stated, "The National Tax Service will strive to provide more convenient refund services without commission fees that taxpayers usually bear when using private companies, not only for this refund retrieval but also during comprehensive income tax filing."
