Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province is introducing a taxi service exclusively for pregnant women, called 'K-MOM TAXI', as part of its measures to overcome low birth rates.

Gumi City Launches Province's First 'K-MOM TAXI'... Assisting Pregnant Women with Hospital Visits Gumi City Pregnant Women K-MOM Taxi.

This service is the first pilot project of its kind in North Gyeongsang Province, with pre-registration having started on the 21st.

Pre-registration is available to pregnant women residing in Gumi City and is conducted online through the North Gyeongsang Youth Portal (Youth e-Kkeullim). Applicants can receive approval notifications after registering as a member and attaching a copy of their resident registration and pregnancy confirmation documents.

Currently, about 1,300 people are eligible for the service, with 195 already having completed their applications and being approved sequentially. Pre-registration will continue for about a month, and once the dedicated app is launched in September, applications can be made through the app. The service period lasts from the registration date until one month after the expected delivery date.

There are 14 obstetrics and gynecology clinics in Gumi City, with 7 hospitals capable of deliveries. Pregnant women have previously faced inconveniences due to a lack of transportation when going out alone, but now 150 taxis will assist them with hospital visits. Fares range from a minimum of 1,100 KRW to a maximum of 3,000 KRW, and the service can be used up to 10 times per month at these affordable rates.

The city laid the foundation for this project by launching a voucher taxi service in February and has been preparing steadily, including requesting provincial funding. After a one-week pilot operation in early September, 150 taxis are scheduled to begin full operation in mid-September.

Considering that eligible users are familiar with mobile devices, the city is developing a dedicated app with North Gyeongsang Province that allows for both registration and taxi requests. This is expected to greatly improve convenience, as there will no longer be a need to visit administrative welfare centers or registration agencies in person.

Mayor Kim Jangho stated, "We are proud to be the first in the province to launch a taxi service for pregnant women," adding, "We will continue our efforts to make Gumi a great place to give birth and raise children."
