Busan Transportation Corporation Implements Special Quarantine Measures in Preparation for COVID-19 Resurgence

Specialized Disinfection and Sterilization of Historic Subway Cars in August and September

Busan Transportation Corporation (President Lee Byungjin) has initiated special disinfection measures for stations and subway trains in response to signs of a resurgence of COVID-19.

The corporation will implement additional special sterilization and disinfection for all facilities, including elevators, escalators, and ticket vending machines, at all 114 stations, in addition to the existing regular disinfection. For major stations such as transfer and gateway stations, two additional rounds of disinfection will be conducted.

Under normal circumstances, the corporation regularly cleans the interiors of train cars and conducts 21 rounds of disinfection annually. In addition, an emergency special disinfection will be carried out in September, with a particular focus on intensive sanitization of handrails and poles.

Furthermore, various measures will be taken to prevent and curb the spread of COVID-19, including ▲ promoting infection prevention guidelines via station and train announcements ▲ operating an internal emergency response team ▲ securing preventive supplies such as disinfectants and test kits ▲ and inspecting emergency personnel operations.

Lee Byungjin, President of Busan Transportation Corporation, stated, “We will make thorough preparations to create a safe urban railway environment where citizens can use the service with peace of mind through proactive disinfection measures in response to the resurgence of COVID-19.”
