On the 25th, the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization held a Special Basketball Tournament for people with and without disabilities as part of the 'DMZ Open Festival' at the auxiliary stadium of 'Goyang Sono Arena' in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.
The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization held a sports event and seminar on the 25th at the auxiliary stadium of ‘Goyang Sono Arena’ located in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province, as part of the ‘DMZ Open Festival,’ including a special basketball tournament where people with disabilities and non-disabled people participated together.
About 100 participants attended the event, including basketball players with developmental disabilities from the Goyang City Rehabilitation Sports Center, professional basketball players (Goyang Sono Starners), and students from basketball classes. A seminar on disabled sports was also held, discussing the social role and importance of disabled sports and ways to promote it.
In particular, teams composed of disabled players, professional basketball players, and students played friendly matches together, and time was provided to learn advanced skills such as dribbling from professional players.
A representative from the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization explained, "This event was organized to create opportunities for social integration through sports and related discussions targeting various social groups, and to spread the value of sustainable ecology and peace in the DMZ."
Meanwhile, the DMZ Open Festival is held in various forms from May to November around the northern Gyeonggi DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), including ▲DMZ Arts (International Music Festival, Open Concert, Peace Concert, Exhibitions) ▲DMZ Academia (Eco Peace Forum, Eco Peace Talk, Policy Contest) ▲DMZ Sports (Walking, Marathon), among others.
