Geumcheon-gu Holds 'Gender Equality Week Commemoration Event' for Working and Caring Together

Various Events Held with Local Organizations to Promote Gender Equality Awareness

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will hold a commemorative event at 2 p.m. on September 3rd in the Geumcheon-gu Office auditorium to mark Gender Equality Week.


Gender Equality Week is held annually from September 1st to 7th, established based on the Framework Act on Gender Equality to promote the realization of gender equality and raise public awareness.


The district prepared the commemorative event to enhance social awareness of gender equality that respects equal opportunities and diversity.


From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., a pre-event will take place. Five civic organizations will operate experience booths on themes such as ▲ Checking My Gender Equality Index ▲ Gender Equality Language Quiz ▲ Domestic Violence Awareness Improvement Campaign ▲ Gender Sensitivity Picture Books. Congratulations performances by the ‘Geumcheon-gu Senior Choir’ and ‘Pureun Geumcheon Ukulele’ are also prepared.


The commemorative ceremony starting at 2 p.m. will include awards for contributors to gender equality and a special lecture by a distinguished guest.

The special lecture will be given by Professor Lee Ho-seon of Soongsil Cyber University’s Department of Christian Counseling and Welfare, who serves as an advisory member of the Korea Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education. The lecture is titled “The Importance of Communication within the Family ? Communication Skills Beyond Gender and Generations.”


Residents wishing to participate in the Gender Equality Week commemorative event can apply by scanning the QR code on the promotional materials. The number of participants is limited to the first 200 applicants, and anyone can join.


Additionally, on the 4th, a children’s puppet show titled ‘Taekwon Girl and Bear’ themed on gender equality will be presented. The story of a bear who is not manly and a girl who is not girly is designed to help children understand differences and learn how to protect themselves in an easy and fun way suitable for young children’s perspectives. The event is hosted by the Geumcheon-gu Childcare Support Center and is expected to be attended by about 140 infants, toddlers, and parents.


Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “As we have prepared various events to mark Gender Equality Week, we hope many interested residents will participate,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to create a city where no one is discriminated against and everyone can enjoy equal rights and opportunities.”
