Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, said on the 25th regarding the recent fire incident at a hotel in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, which resulted in 7 deaths and 12 injuries, "I hope the party and government can have a deep discussion once again about fire safety measures for existing buildings."
During his opening remarks at the high-level party-government meeting held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Han said, "Although it is mandatory to install sprinklers on every floor of buildings with six or more stories, this obligation does not apply to buildings that are not newly constructed or are old. In the case of the Bucheon building, it falls into a blind spot exempt from the sprinkler installation mandate."
Han added, "During the 21st National Assembly, the party secretary-general proposed related legislation," and introduced, "The bill included measures such as disaster management fund support for sprinkler installation, financial support for installing residential fire safety equipment for socially vulnerable groups, and mandatory installation regardless of facility size, but it was discarded due to the expiration of the term."
Regarding fire safety measures for electric vehicles, Han said, "We need to clearly address this issue and establish rules through this legislation," and added, "It would be good to alleviate the fear of electric vehicle fires through constructive discussions."
Meanwhile, on the topic of prices during the Chuseok holiday, Han stated, "The rise in prices of vegetables, fruits, livestock products, and seafood is felt very strongly by the public, and there has been a lot of reaction to this, so we need to pay special attention," and urged, "Even after the Chuseok holiday ends, we must make every effort to manage prices thoroughly."
