The Asia-Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) is an international event established by Fukuoka City, Japan, in 1994 to seek solutions to urban issues by sharing urban administration experiences among local governments in the Asia-Pacific region. It is held biennially and marked its 14th edition this year.

This year, the event was successfully held at the Shiroyama Hotel in Kagoshima from August 22 to 24. Delegations included the Deputy Mayor of Busan, representatives from 24 cities, the Head of the UN-Habitat Fukuoka Office, officials from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), policymakers, and other city representatives.

The program included: ▲ A keynote speech by Kazuko Ishigaki, Head of the UN-Habitat Fukuoka Office ▲ A special lecture by Sujin Kim, a special lecturer from the OECD ▲ Presentations and sharing of sustainable urban development cases from each city.

Notably, on August 23, Deputy Mayor Lee Joonseung delivered a presentation during a special thematic session at the Asia-Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) under the theme "15-Minute City Busan." He discussed people-centered urban innovation and the development of a 15-Minute City for citizen happiness, sharing Busan's case with the participating cities.

In his presentation, he emphasized that the "Green Smart City," which enables a pleasant life in a clean environment based on carbon neutrality, is the vision Busan aspires to, and that the philosophy of the 15-Minute City is embedded within it.

At the closing ceremony of the Asia-Pacific Cities Summit (APCS), the "Kagoshima Declaration" was adopted, stating that the development of Asia-Pacific cities and the use of international city networks to address challenges can contribute to sustainable development in Asia and around the world.

The declaration includes efforts to realize a better life for Asia-Pacific cities, improving residents' lives through digital innovation in urban development, and international cooperation among cities to promote and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Deputy Mayor Lee Joonseung stated, "This year's Asia-Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) was a meaningful occasion to introduce our city's efforts to promote the '15-Minute City' as we leap forward as a 'Green Smart City' to delegations from 24 cities. It was also an opportunity to reaffirm that Busan has the capacity and potential to become a 'Global Hub City.' I hope that, through continued mutual cooperation among Asia-Pacific cities, we can share and develop excellent policies and work together to solve global challenges."

The 15th summit is scheduled to be held in Fukuoka, Japan, in 2026.
