Son Heung-min Ranks 20th in All-Time EPL Scoring, Surpassing Lukaku
Son Heung-min led Tottenham Hotspur to a 4-0 victory by scoring 2 goals.
On the 24th (Korean time), Son Heung-min scored goals in the 25th minute of the first half and the 22nd minute of the second half during the 2nd round match of the 2024-2025 English Premier League (EPL) season against Everton at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, UK.
Son Heung-min started the match as the foremost striker. Dominic Solanke, who played as the main striker in the opening match against Leicester City, was absent due to an ankle injury, so Son Heung-min took on the role of the leading forward.
Having only one shot in the opening match, Son Heung-min showed a more aggressive performance. He recorded his first shot just 5 minutes into the first half. Receiving a pass from Willson Odobert just outside the left side of the penalty box, he aimed at the goal with his right foot. The ball deflected off an opposing defender and headed toward the goal, but the opposing goalkeeper Jordan Pickford dived to save it.

Tottenham took the lead in the 14th minute of the first half. Dejan Kulusevski drew the defense inside the penalty box and passed to Yves Bissouma, who scored the first goal with a powerful right-footed long-range shot.
Eleven minutes later, Son Heung-min scored an additional goal to make it 2-0. Near the halfway line, Son Heung-min pressured the opponent who threw the ball backward, forcing the defender to pass back to the goalkeeper. Son Heung-min continued to chase the ball, and when goalkeeper Pickford redirected it to the right, Son Heung-min intercepted and easily pushed it into the empty net. This was his first goal of the season and his 121st goal in the EPL.
Tottenham did not ease their offensive pressure in the second half and secured a big win. The third goal came from a corner kick in the 25th minute of the second half. James Maddison delivered the ball from the left, and Cristian Romero connected with a header to score.
With the match effectively decided, Son Heung-min added another goal with the help of center-back Micky van der Ven. Van der Ven stole the ball during Everton’s attack and initiated a counterattack. He intercepted the ball just outside the penalty box and made a solo run near the opponent’s penalty area before passing to Son Heung-min, who was making a synchronized run. Son Heung-min aimed between Pickford’s legs and scored the fourth goal with his left foot.
Thanks to Son Heung-min’s performance, Tottenham earned their first win of the season. In the opening match against Leicester City, Tottenham had scored first but conceded in the second half, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
With two goals on this day, Son Heung-min recorded his 122nd EPL goal. Surpassing Romelu Lukaku, who scored 121 goals, he rose to 20th place in the all-time EPL scoring rankings.
