Chinese Small Supermarket Decides to Close Due to Neighborhood Complaints
A supermarket owner in China, who attracted customers by wearing revealing outfits, is reportedly facing closure, according to a report by Seoul Economic Daily on the 24th citing Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP). The supermarket owner gained fame for her provocative attire but was forced to shut down due to a flood of complaints.
Local media Red Star News reported, "A video showing this woman wearing a tight-fitting dress widely circulated on Chinese social networking services (SNS) earlier this month." In the video, the owner leans toward customers emphasizing her cleavage while wearing revealing clothing.
Residents reported the owner's inappropriate attire to local authorities and the police. One complainant, believed to be from a competing business, claimed, "She wore a low-cut, tight dress to attract more customers."
However, a local government official stated, "She has the freedom to dress as she wishes," and said they could not intervene. The police also visited the site but found no illegal activity and left.
As complaints continued to pour in, the owner began working in less provocative clothing, but the supermarket remained crowded. This was because male customers flocked to talk with her.
Ultimately, on the 17th, the owner posted on SNS, "Many people are harassing me. One man even hit me, causing bleeding." Afterwards, she put up a notice stating the store would close and be sold. The business lasted less than three months.
