It was revealed that Chinese nationals visited Japan the most last month. Among foreigners, Koreans, who had previously been the largest group visiting Japan, fell to second place behind China.
According to the July foreign visitor statistics to Japan released by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) on the 21st, the number of foreign visitors to Japan last month reached a record high of 3.29 million, a 41.9% increase compared to the same month last year. This marks the highest monthly figure for two consecutive months, following 3.13 million visitors in June.

Looking at the total foreign visitors to Japan last month by country and region, South Korea ranked second with 758,000 visitors, following China with 777,000 visitors. From January to July this year, South Korea ranked first with 5.2 million visitors, while China was second with 3.845 million visitors.
Japan expects the annual number of foreign visitors this year to reach an all-time high. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated at last month's Tourism Nation Promotion Ministerial Meeting, "This year, the number of foreign visitors to Japan is expected to reach 35 million, and the consumption expenditure by foreign visitors to Japan is expected to be about 8 trillion yen (approximately 73.2 trillion won), both setting new records."
