Gwangju City will actively work to resolve local issues by holding a policy meeting with the Gwangju branch of the People Power Party.

Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kang Gi-jung) held a policy meeting with the Gwangju Metropolitan City branch of the People Power Party on the 23rd at the city hall's medium conference room to discuss major issues such as the establishment of an Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AX) Demonstration Valley and the rapid securing of transportation infrastructure for a complex shopping mall.

Attending the meeting were key officials including Gwangju Mayor Kang Gi-jung, Deputy Mayor Ko Gwang-wan, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Economy Lee Sang-gap, and Planning and Coordination Office Director Bae Il-kwon. From the People Power Party Gwangju branch, Chairman Kim Jeong-hyun, and party committee chairpersons Ha Heon-sik, Kim Yoon, Kim Jeong-myeong, and Ahn Tae-uk participated.

During the meeting, they agreed to join efforts on ▲ the procedures related to the preliminary feasibility study for the Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AX) Demonstration Valley project (AI Phase 2) ▲ rapid securing of transportation infrastructure around the planned site for the complex shopping mall ▲ promotion of the relocation of the Gwangju civilian-military integrated airport ▲ establishment of the Gwangju AI gifted high school affiliated with GIST ▲ operation of the National Trauma Healing Center for Violence ▲ and the promotion of constitutional amendment to include the spirit of May 18 in the preamble.

In particular, Gwangju City will ensure that national funding for 10 projects, including the Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AX) Demonstration Valley, is secured with active cooperation from the People Power Party city branch, while continuing to collaborate on the promotion of the relocation of the Gwangju civilian-military integrated airport.

They will also unite efforts for the successful hosting of the 15th Gwangju Biennale, which opens on September 7, through promotional activities.

Kim Jeong-hyun, Chairman of the People Power Party Gwangju branch, said, “I hope this policy meeting will serve as a foundation for regional development ahead of the full-scale budget season. We have already requested the central party to support Gwangju’s AI projects and transportation infrastructure for the complex shopping mall and received positive responses. We will work harder at the city branch level to revive people’s livelihoods.”

Mayor Kang Gi-jung of Gwangju said, “When the power of Gwangju City, political parties, city and district councils, and civic groups come together like now, it will become a great driving force for Gwangju’s development. Please continue to show interest and affection for the path toward Gwangju’s development and citizens’ happiness, including the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Transformation (AX) Demonstration Valley.”
