"Realizing Glocal Education Through Symbiosis and Reading Humanities"
Kim Dae-jung, Superintendent of Education for Jeonnam, attended the ‘2024 Yeonghonam Joint Summer Academic Conference’ on the 23rd and delivered a keynote speech on the direction of education in the Republic of Korea and the realization of glocal education.
This academic conference was organized by the Korean Governance Society, with about 200 academic participants from Yeonghonam attending under the theme ‘Now is the Era of Local Government! Educational Autonomy, Eco-friendly Energy, and Regional Development.’

In his lecture, Superintendent Kim emphasized the need for a major educational transformation to respond to regional extinction and the climate crisis faced by future society, and to establish a foundation for sustainable regional development.
On this day, Superintendent Kim stated, “Through symbiotic education, reading and humanities education, and digital education, Jeonnam education will take the lead in realizing glocal education centered on the region.”
Superintendent Kim presented key tasks including ▲student-tailored education that restores the basics of education ▲building an educational ecosystem that coexists with the region ▲promoting global education that expands from the region to the world.
The academic conference drew consensus by presenting the achievements of the Glocal Future Education Expo, Jeonnam Student Education Allowance, and measures to strengthen education in island areas, as part of the development plan for Jeonnam-style educational autonomy.
Kim Yong-min, President of the Korean Governance Society, said, “Through the keynote speech on glocal education, we shared a new paradigm of education,” and added, “The challenges and passion of the provincial education office will lead the development of education in the Republic of Korea.”
Superintendent Kim emphasized, “Through the ‘Republic of Korea Glocal Future Education Expo’ held in Yeosu last May, we clearly presented a new vision for future education that overcomes regional limitations,” and added, “We will concretize an educational ecosystem that coexists with the region, the 2030 classroom, and glocal education to fully bloom region-centered glocal education that leverages Jeonnam’s unique strengths.”
