Seoul Metro (President Baek Ho) announced on the 23rd that it has installed stairs inside Exit 3 of Olympic Park Station on Line 9 to alleviate congestion in the station concourse.

Olympic Park Station on Line 9 is adjacent to the Olympic Stadium, and there were safety concerns such as accidents caused by crowding during various performances and events. During congestion, escalators were stopped and safety personnel were deployed to maintain order, but due to the structural issue of having no stairs other than escalators inside the concourse, additional measures were needed.

Accordingly, the Metro decided to install internal stairs at Exit 3, which has the highest number of users, and began construction in March. With the stairs opening from the 23rd, it is expected to reduce crowd concentration during congestion and prevent safety accidents.

The internal stairs were designed as a two-level structure connecting from basement level 1 through a mezzanine to ground level 1. Safety handrails 1.5 meters high and tempered glass were installed doubly at both ends of the stairs to ensure passenger safety.

Son Byung-hee, Head of Line 9 Operations Division, said, “The installation of internal stairs at Olympic Park Station has created an environment where citizens can use the station with greater peace of mind,” and added, “We hope this will serve as a bridge to help both subway passengers and citizens visiting for events have a safe and happy time.”
