NongHyup Bank Faces Over 10 Billion KRW Financial Incident... Fourth This Year

A financial incident involving approximately 10 billion KRW occurred at an NH Nonghyup Bank branch. The employee involved reportedly took their own life after an internal audit began.

According to the financial sector on the 23rd, Nonghyup Bank recently discovered improper loan transactions at a branch in Seoul and initiated an audit on the 20th. Employee A is believed to have taken out large loans by using acquaintances' names without authorization.

The incident period spans from June 2020 to August of this year, with the amount estimated at about 11.7 billion KRW so far.

Although Nonghyup Bank immediately filed a criminal complaint and took personnel actions against A, it is reported that A made an extreme choice on the 21st during the internal audit. The audit process has effectively been halted.

This is the fourth financial incident at Nonghyup Bank this year. In March, an employee at one branch was caught on charges of breach of trust related to real estate collateral loans, and two similar financial incidents were uncovered through internal audits in May.

Nonghyup Bank stated, “Depending on the audit results, we will take the highest level of disciplinary actions, including dismissal and criminal prosecution, against those found to have violated regulations.”
