Seocho-gu to Hold 'Seoripul Musical Instrument Making Exhibition' Starting from the 27th Last year's Seoripul Instrument Making Exhibition. Provided by Seocho-gu.

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold the "2024 Seoripul Instrument Making Exhibition" at the first-floor exhibition hall of "Gallery Banpodaero 5," located within the Seocho Music Culture District, from the 27th of this month to September 7th.

This exhibition was organized to promote the excellence of Korean string instrument making and to expand opportunities for residents to access classical music. Five handmade string instrument makers with over five years of experience, active within the Seocho Music Culture District?the only music culture district in Korea?will participate, showcasing handmade instruments and various hands-on programs.

The participating string instrument makers are Kim Min-seong (Kim Min-seong Violin), Kim Byung-chul (Kim Byung-chul String), Kim Shin-seok (Shema String), Kim Tae-seok (Kim's String), and Park Young-sun (Park Young-sun String), totaling five individuals. They will exhibit a total of 25 instruments featuring unique characteristics of each maker, including a 1:1 copy of a 1566 Amati, original design models, and innovative instruments using titanium parts.

The exhibition space was designed three-dimensionally in collaboration with a tape drawing artist, and alongside the instrument displays, interactive programs that engage visitors' interest will be held simultaneously, allowing for a diverse and enjoyable exhibition experience.

The programs are open to everyone and consist of three main activities: ▲ "Modern Instrument Demonstration," where visitors can play the exhibited instruments themselves; ▲ "Self Instrument Making Experience," where participants carve wood using tools used by string instrument makers; and ▲ "Instrument Making Experience Class," where participants can directly experience the violin-making process with a string instrument maker. However, the instrument making experience class requires prior reservation.

Detailed schedules can be found on the Seocho-gu Office website, and inquiries can be directed to the Seocho-gu Office Culture and Tourism Division or the Seocho Cultural Foundation.

Mayor Jeon Seong-su stated, "We have prepared a special venue to exhibit instruments made by string instrument makers who graduated from prestigious overseas string instrument making schools and possess outstanding skills in instrument making and repair." He added, "We will actively support the promotion of the excellence of Korean string instrument making and the enhancement of the status of instrument makers and classical performances to help spread the value of the Seocho Music Culture District."
