'Harris vs Trump' Matchup Confirmed
First Presidential TV Debate Battle on September 10
On the 22nd (local time), Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver the Democratic presidential candidate acceptance speech, marking the finale of the four-day Democratic National Convention. Vice President Harris is expected to present a national vision and policies to rally American voters during the remaining 75 days from the inauguration to the presidential election, engaging in a fierce competition with former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, for the White House.
Michael Tyler, the press secretary for the campaign, stated in a pre-briefing that "Vice President Harris will unveil her vision for America's future," describing it as "a country where the middle class thrives, all freedoms are protected, and women's rights are respected." He added, "Vice President Harris will share her story of growing up in a middle-class single-mother household and fighting against societal injustices," emphasizing, "Today, you will see a warrior fighting for our fundamental freedoms."
It was reported that Vice President Harris stayed at a hotel in Chicago on the third day of the convention, dedicating herself to preparing her final acceptance speech. On the first day of the convention, she made a surprise appearance during President Joe Biden's farewell speech to express her gratitude, and on the second day, she campaigned in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Through her speech on this day, Vice President Harris will officially become the Democratic presidential candidate. After President Biden withdrew from the race following controversies over his age and cognitive abilities that surfaced during the first presidential TV debate held in late June, Harris stepped in and has rapidly unified the Democratic Party over the past month, gaining momentum in the polls. Particularly, with successive polls showing Vice President Harris leading former President Trump, the Republican candidate, in support, she is revitalizing the Democratic Party, which had appeared to be losing ground. Key Democratic leaders, including President Biden who passed the torch to Harris, former President Barack Obama and his wife, former President Bill Clinton and his wife, and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have all rallied in support, pledging victory in the presidential election.
After the convention, which will serve as Vice President Harris's inauguration, the competition with former President Trump to win the U.S. presidential election scheduled for November 5 will intensify. It is reported that independent candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. is expected to withdraw as early as the 23rd and endorse former President Trump, making this election a fierce contest between the two candidates. The presidential TV debate hosted by ABC on the 10th of next month is expected to be the first showdown between Vice President Harris and former President Trump.
