Strengthening Monitoring of COVID-19 Resurgence Trends and Education on Preventive Measures
POSCO Pohang Steelworks is offering the "Visiting Health Plus+" education program to foster employee safety and a happy organizational culture.
A dedicated nurse from the Industrial Health Center at POSCO Pohang Steelworks is conducting diabetes prevention education in the conference room.
Given the nature of the steel industry, Pohang Steelworks must operate 24/7 and therefore runs a shift work system to maintain production lines. As employee health management is of utmost importance, the company has introduced a variety of health management programs.
Since November 2022, the Pohang Steelworks Industrial Health Center has been running the "Health Plus+ Education" program, which brings health education directly to the workplace to promote employee well-being.
This program targets employees across all plants and sections within Pohang Steelworks, with dedicated nurses and physical therapists visiting sites to provide preventive health education and consultations.
The education topics cover a total of five areas: hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, health management for shift workers, and musculoskeletal disorders.
Each session is conducted in small groups of up to 30 participants through prior registration, with about 50 minutes of expert-led education and consultation.
In particular, the program includes education on sleep disorders and health management for shift workers, helping to prevent health issues that may arise from irregular lifestyles.
An employee who participated in the program said, "After checking my blood pressure and blood sugar on site, the dedicated nurse provided health management counseling and advice. The health knowledge I gained from the consultation will be very helpful in my daily life."
Yoo Haeseong, head of the Industrial Health Center, stated, "We are operating the Visiting Health Plus+ Education program year-round again this year. Through individualized counseling and the delivery of health management knowledge, we aim to improve health awareness and contribute to creating a safe and healthy work environment."
Pohang Steelworks is also providing all employees with information on domestic and international COVID-19 trends and prevention guidelines in preparation for a potential resurgence of COVID-19. The company will continue to monitor government policies and outbreak trends, and will focus on employee health management in accordance with its internal infectious disease response system.
