Securing Experts in Cloud Fields such as CSP and MSP
Samsung SDS is continuously recruiting cloud experts from big tech companies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft (MS), and Meta. The company is accelerating its market penetration by securing big tech professionals for both wings of its cloud business: service provision (CSP) and management services (MSP), as well as marketing executives overseeing these areas.
According to the IT industry on the 22nd, Samsung SDS appointed Executive Director Lee Ju-pyeong as the head of the SCP Architecture Group within the Cloud Technology Office of the Cloud Service Division in June. Lee graduated with a master's and doctorate in Electronic and Computer Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and previously worked at Samsung Electronics. Just before joining Samsung SDS, he led database engineering at Meta. He is an expert in system architecture, software (SW) development, and operating systems (OS).

SCP is a cloud platform provided by Samsung SDS. Cloud architecture connects technical elements such as hardware (HW), software (SW), and network systems necessary for building a cloud platform. Since architecture is key to constructing a cloud environment tailored to corporate requirements, it is analyzed that Samsung SDS recruited an expert in this field.
Earlier in April, Samsung SDS also appointed a big tech talent to the MSP sector, the other pillar of cloud services. Executive Director Lee Je-na, former MS Cloud Solutions Architecture Lead, was appointed as the head of the MSP Business Team. Lee has over 20 years of experience at global top enterprise software companies such as SAP and MS.
The MSP Business Team is responsible for corporate cloud migration and operations. Lee’s experience at MS, the second-largest cloud market player, is expected to play a crucial role. Having accumulated experience not only with MS’s Azure infrastructure but also in AI, metaverse, and Internet of Things (IoT) fields, Lee is anticipated to significantly contribute to leveraging the latest cloud technologies.
The consecutive recruitment of big tech professionals is aimed at strengthening the cloud business. In the first half of this year, cloud division sales exceeded 1 trillion won, reaching 1.0868 trillion won. Although the logistics business, which accounts for half of the sales, continues to struggle, cloud services have compensated for this. As a result, quarterly sales growth turned positive for the first time in six quarters in Q2.
Samsung SDS plans to maintain momentum in the second half of the year. With the relaxation of network separation regulations in the financial sector for the first time in 10 years, the cloud business is expected to benefit. From as early as the end of this year, financial companies will be allowed to utilize generative AI, and the scope of work that can use cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) will be significantly expanded. Gu Hyeong-jun, Vice President of Samsung SDS’s Cloud Service Division, said during the Q2 earnings conference call, "Orders for cloud migration projects and generative AI projects continue, and sales are expected to increase significantly next quarter," adding, "We will accelerate cloud and generative AI businesses, focusing on the financial and public sectors."
