Outstanding Natural Scenery and Historical Heritage ... Aiming to Develop as a Tourist Attraction
Haman County in Gyeongnam announced on the 22nd that the 'Hapgang Area Pungnyu Garden Development Project,' one of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's Southern Region Wide-Area Tourism Development Plans, has passed the final eligibility review for new government subsidies by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and will be fully launched starting next year.
This project, promoted through collaboration between Haman County and Park Sangwoong, a member of the People Power Party (representing Miryang, Uiryeong, Haman, and Changnyeong), will take place in the area stretching from Jangam-ri in Daesin-myeon, where the Nakdong River and Nam River meet, to Yonghwasan in Gyenae-ri, Chilseo-myeon. The goal is to create a tourist attraction based on the region's outstanding natural scenery and historical heritage.

The Hapgang area is not only renowned for the beautiful landscapes of Yonghwasan, but also holds deep historical significance, as it is the site where local scholars pledged to restore the people's spirit after the Imjin War, a story recorded in the 'Yonghwasanha Dongbeomrok.'
Haman County aims to develop these natural and historical assets as tourism resources, thereby re-highlighting the value of the region's cultural heritage and revitalizing the local economy.
The main phase of the project will begin in 2025, with a total investment of 45.08 billion KRW over four years.
The main components of the project include: the construction of the Dongbeom Pungnyu Memorial Hall; relocation and reconstruction of Mohyeonjeong; creation of the Hapgangjeong Rest Area; development of the Bangujeong Pungnyu Garden; and operation of an eco-friendly ferry terminal. Various spaces will be established where local residents and visitors can experience both nature and history simultaneously.

The 'Hapgang Area Pungnyu Garden Development Project' is the first phase of the Southern Region Tourism Theme Garden Series. It is expected to grow into a leading tourist destination in inland Gyeongnam through connection with the second-phase projects: the Changnyeong Color Garden and Uiryeong Fragrance Garden. In addition, the expansion of tourism infrastructure themed around the nature and culture of inland Gyeongnam is projected to make a significant contribution to the local economy.
Cho Geunje, Mayor of Haman County, stated, "This project will be an important turning point for the tourism development of Haman County. The Hapgang Area Pungnyu Garden will not only shed new light on the region's unique history and culture, but also establish itself as a leading tourist destination in Gyeongnam, further enhancing the value of the local economy and cultural assets."
