Eat, Sleep, and Enjoy in Gumi, High Hopes for Small Business Sales Growth
Local Tours and City Tours Operated to Provide Real Support for Small Businesses
Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province is invigorating the local economy by consecutively hosting various national-level events, international competitions, and sports and cultural festivals.
From August to September, typically the off-season for tourism, Gumi will hold a total of six major sports and cultural events: the National Skills Competition, the Korea-China-Japan Junior Comprehensive Games, the National Conference of Korea Future Agricultural Managers, the KPGA Golfzon-Toray Open, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Sports Festival for All, and the LG Dream Festival.
It is expected that 100,000 visitors will come to Gumi, which is anticipated to lead to increased sales for small businesses such as accommodations, restaurants, cafes, and shops.
The city plans to provide visitors with a pleasant tourism experience befitting the image of global Gumi by producing promotional materials for accommodations and restaurants, carrying out environmental maintenance and hygiene inspections, monitoring accommodation price hikes, and cracking down on unkind practices.
In addition, to allow visitors to experience local culture and specialties, the city will operate souvenir exhibitions, corporate product promotion and sales booths, and encourage the use of local restaurants and the purchase of tourism souvenirs to offer practical support to small businesses.
In particular, about 500 athletes from China and Japan participating in the Korea-China-Japan Junior Comprehensive Games will tour the Seongnihak History Museum, Samsung, Nongshim, and other sites. Participants in the National Conference of Korea Future Agricultural Managers will visit local attractions through the Gumi City Tour and enjoy meals at local restaurants.
Mayor Kim Jangho said, "By attracting various large-scale events during the quietest months of August and September, we will help revitalize the local economy," adding, "We will make full use of Gumi's diverse resources and attractions to provide visitors with an unforgettable experience."
