BBC, Gomong Also Paying Attention to BCWW... Giving Wings to K-Content

Held on the Largest Scale Ever... 412 Operation Booths
180 Domestic Companies Participate... Lee Jung-jae to Give a Lecture

The largest domestic broadcasting video content market is undoubtedly the International Broadcasting Video Market (BCWW). Riding the wave of K-content popularity, it first attracts attention from overseas. Last year's export contract performance reached a record high of $98.09 million (approximately 132.8 billion KRW). Through a substantial international exchange program, it also provided a glimpse into the future of global broadcasting video.

This year, it will be held from the 27th to the 29th at COEX in Seoul. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency focus on two main points: supporting the overseas expansion of K-content and strengthening its status as an international event. Under the theme "Opening the Future of the Global Stage," the event will feature broadcasting video content exhibitions, business connections (business matching), content and K-format demonstrations, lectures, and operation of a K-Online Video Service (OTT) promotional booth.

Kim Yong-seop, Director of the Media Bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "BCWW has emerged as a major international broadcasting market in Asia where key domestic and international industry stakeholders interact," adding, "We will spare no effort to support the growth of our broadcasting video content industry and its overseas expansion."

As promised, the scale is the largest ever. A total of 277 major domestic and international video and platform companies are participating. The number of booths operated reaches 412. Notably, France, Japan, and Taiwan each set up joint pavilions to support their domestic companies. France's largest video and media company Mediawan and renowned production company Gaumont are participating. The UK's BBC Studios under BBC and China's representative OTT iQIYI are also joining.

More than 180 domestic companies have completed registration. These include the three terrestrial broadcasters (MBC, KBS, SBS), CJ E&M, SLL, Studio Genie, and RaemongRaein. Coupang Play is also establishing an independent pavilion for the first time to promote its sports-specialized platform strategy.

The Korea Creative Content Agency separately promotes works participating in the "Broadcasting Video Content Production Support Project." It will hold an "On Air" event to showcase upcoming broadcasts and trailers, providing opportunities for producers, buyers, and investors to explore business deals.

Advertiser-supported free real-time streaming service providers (Free Ad-supported Streaming TV, smart TV-based ad-supported free real-time streaming services) will also participate in consultations. These include Samsung TV Plus and LG Channels. A Korea Creative Content Agency official explained, "It has rapidly risen in the U.S. to the extent that 150 million people use it."

Lectures befitting an international event are also prepared. On the 27th, actor Lee Jung-jae, who gained global popularity through "Squid Game" and the "Star Wars" series, will appear. He will speak on the theme "The Center of the Globe, the Status of K-Content." A Korea Creative Content Agency official said, "As an actor, director, and producer, he can inspire many people with new challenges by actively contributing to the broadcasting content market."

On the 28th, the global success secrets of dramas will be explored, focusing on this year's hit "Seonjae Upgo Twieo." Kim Do-hyun, Head of Overseas Content Business at CJ ENM, Park Soon-tae, producer at Bon Factory, and Son Jeong-wook, Content Partnership Team Leader at Rakuten Viki, are scheduled to appear.
