Jongkundang recently announced on the 21st that it has launched Epinabel topical solution, a treatment for onychomycosis.
Epinabel is a prescription drug with epinaconazole as its main ingredient. It has excellent nail penetration, making it highly effective in treating onychomycosis without the need for nail filing. Clinical trials have demonstrated higher complete cure rates and mycological cure rates compared to existing treatments.
Onychomycosis is a disease caused by fungal infections, such as dermatophytes, that infect the fingernails and toenails, leading to fungal infections. On average, treatment for fingernail onychomycosis requires 6 months, while toenail onychomycosis requires more than 12 months of treatment.
Epinabel is a topical solution applied directly to the affected area. It replaces the traditional brush-type applicator with a solid tip and incorporates patented technology to ensure uniform dispensing of the solution. This design helps prevent side effects such as rash and itching that can occur when the medication contacts the surrounding skin during long-term use.
A representative from Jongkundang stated, “Epinabel has proven its excellent efficacy through clinical trials and improves usability by enhancing the existing nail tip applicator. When used in combination with oral antifungal agents, it is expected to have a synergistic effect. We anticipate it will provide a new treatment option for patients requiring long-term therapy at an affordable price.”
