No Emergency Room for Dawn Deliveries... Baby Born in Ambulance After Wandering

Paramedics Receive Child from Ambulance
Mother and Child in Healthy Condition

It was recently revealed that a pregnant woman in the Chungbuk region, who was about to give birth, gave birth inside an ambulance after struggling to find an emergency room in the early morning hours.

According to Jincheon Fire Station on the 21st, at around 1:31 a.m. on the 15th, a report was received from Ms. A in Samsung-myeon, Eumseong-gun, stating she was experiencing labor pains. The ambulance, which arrived within 10 minutes, searched for four hospitals in the Cheonan and Cheongju areas where delivery was possible. However, nearby hospitals refused to admit Ms. A, citing no available beds or doctors to perform surgery.

There were no hospitals in Eumseong or Jincheon counties that could accommodate a pregnant woman. The emergency room at Chungbuk National University Hospital, the nearest general hospital, had temporarily suspended operations from 2 p.m. on the 14th to 8:30 a.m. on the 15th due to the departure of residents and some emergency medicine specialists being on sick leave.

At that time, Ms. A was experiencing labor pains at one-minute intervals, indicating that childbirth was imminent.

While searching for a hospital, Ms. A’s amniotic sac eventually ruptured, and the paramedics immediately decided to perform an emergency delivery. They stopped the ambulance on the street, received medical guidance from a doctor, and provided emergency care. The baby was born about 1 hour and 20 minutes after the initial report.

The paramedics transported the mother and baby to a hospital in Gyeonggi-do, about 80 km away, as selected by the 119 control center. Fortunately, both are reported to be in good health.
