A consumer complaint was filed regarding foreign substances found at a McDonald's store in Jecheon, Chungbuk, prompting the company to verify the facts.
On the 20th, Yonhap News reported, "On the evening of the 17th, a customer who took out a Double Bulgogi Burger from a McDonald's store in Jecheon filed a complaint saying that thread came out of the hamburger."
According to the report, the complainant, Mr. A, claimed, "After finishing eating, I felt something stuck in my teeth and found a 10 cm long thread coming out of my mouth." He added, "When I called the headquarters the next day, they redirected my complaint to the Jecheon branch and only asked me to send the product by courier for recall, without mentioning any compensation or refund." In response, McDonald's Korea stated they are "verifying the facts."
The company said, "We plan to investigate whether the foreign substance entered during food preparation or packaging, and if it is related, we will take measures to prevent recurrence." They also explained, "It seems the franchise requested the customer to send the substance by courier to identify what it is," and apologized, saying, "We are sorry for the inadequate response."
Meanwhile, a foreign substance issue was also raised at McDonald's on the 14th. Yonhap News TV reported, "Mr. B, who purchased chicken nuggets at a McDonald's store in Masan, found a substance presumed to be body hair stuck to the nuggets." Mr. B asked the store staff to explain the cause of the foreign substance, but the staff reportedly responded indifferently.
After the incident became known, McDonald's stated, "It was difficult to identify the cause because the customer refused to return the problematic chicken nuggets," and added, "When foreign substances are found, products are recalled through refunds so that the headquarters and manufacturers can trace the source, but the investigation could not proceed because the refund was refused."
