Success in Japan and Taiwan... Twelve New Theaters Opened Last Month

According to Box Office Mojo, ScreenX (the theater with screens expanded to three sides) grew by 84%, and 4DX (the sensory experience theater) grew by 189% compared to the same period last year. In particular, the former generated revenue of 12 million USD (approximately 16 billion KRW), marking the highest monthly performance ever.

A CGV official said, "It is even more encouraging because this achievement was made while the entire North American market declined." Last month, the North American market's performance fell by 13% compared to the same period last year.

The growth of ScreenX and 4DX is attributed to the special theater viewing craze for titles such as "Despicable Me 4," "Deadpool and Wolverine," and "Twisters." Especially, "Twisters" earned 3.8 million USD (approximately 5.1 billion KRW) from 4DX screenings in its opening week alone.

A CGV official stated, "The seat occupancy rate in 4DX and ULTRA 4DX exceeded 50%," adding, "We expect to continue this trend in the second half of the year with titles like 'Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,' 'Gladiator 2,' and 'Wicked: Part 1.'"

The proportion of ScreenX in multiplexes is also continuously increasing. Last month alone, twelve new ScreenX theaters were established in countries including Japan, Taiwan, and the United States.

In particular, the ScreenX theater set up at Toho Ikebukuro in Japan offers differentiated screening services by combining with Dolby theaters. The local film "Kingdom 4" has gained popularity, recording an average seat occupancy rate of 30%.

In Taiwan, four ScreenX theaters were newly established at multiplex showtimes. The average seat occupancy rate during the opening weekend of "Deadpool and Wolverine" screened there was 53%.

CJ 4DPLEX operates 407 ScreenX theaters and 792 4DX theaters in forty-five countries. Based on global box office standards, its performance has been increasing every year. In 2021, it was 213.55 million USD (approximately 284.1 billion KRW), in 2022, 374.74 million USD (approximately 498.3 billion KRW), and last year, 402.05 million USD (approximately 534.6 billion KRW).
