The highlight is the gaming monitor 'Odyssey 3D,' which allows users to experience three dimensions without the need for dedicated 3D glasses. This product received the 'Best of Innovation' award in the Gaming & eSports category at CES 2024.
It supports a feature that converts 2D images into immersive 3D screens through a lenticular lens attached to the front of the panel. The lenticular lens is an optical element that separates stereoscopic images so both eyes can view them. Additionally, the Odyssey 3D is equipped with eye tracking and view mapping technologies to provide an optimized 3D experience for users. Eye tracking uses stereo cameras built into the front of the product to track the positions of both eyes in 3D space, delivering consistent stereoscopic depth accordingly. View mapping adjusts the image in real time to display the clearest stereoscopic effect.
This product offers both 3D and 2D modes, allowing screen switching depending on the purpose. It comes in 37-inch and 27-inch sizes with 4K resolution displays. With a fast 1ms response time and a high 165Hz refresh rate, it enables smooth gameplay without afterimages or stuttering. Ergonomic designs such as height adjustment (HAS) and tilt control are applied, and it supports FreeSync Premium, DisplayPort 1.4 (one port), and HDMI 2.1 (two ports), incorporating the latest gaming specifications.
Gamescom is the world's largest game exhibition, with about 1,400 hardware, software, and game content creators participating. Samsung Electronics has prepared its largest-ever exhibition space of approximately 800 square meters and will showcase a wide range of high-spec gaming monitor new models, including the Odyssey 3D, 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8, and 27-inch Odyssey G6.
In addition, Samsung will set up an Odyssey experience zone with various game partners, allowing visitors to try not only the Odyssey 3D but also gaming monitors such as the Odyssey OLED G8 with a 240Hz refresh rate and UHD resolution, the Odyssey OLED G6 with a 360Hz refresh rate and QHD resolution, and the 57-inch dual UHD resolution Odyssey Neo G9.
Visitors will also be able to play new games directly on the Odyssey monitor products, including Blizzard Entertainment's 'World of Warcraft: The War Within,' Krafton's 'inZOI,' and HoYoverse's Genshin Impact.
Samsung Electronics is expanding its lineup by launching three new 2024 Odyssey OLED models in major global markets such as North America, Europe, and Australia.
Jung Hoon, Vice President of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Business Division, said, "We are introducing a glasses-free 3D gaming monitor differentiated from existing displays at Gamescom, the world's largest game show. We will continue to lead the premium gaming monitor market through the development of various new technologies."
According to market research firm IDC, Samsung Electronics has maintained the No. 1 position for five consecutive years since 2019 in the global gaming monitor market with a refresh rate of 144Hz or higher. In the first quarter of this year, it solidified its leading position with a 20.6% market share by value. In the European market, it also leads the gaming monitor market with a 24.2% market share by value.
