Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) will create a tall and lush garden-style pine forest by the end of this year at both ends of Songpa-daero, which vertically crosses the district: the southern end of Jamsil Bridge and the boundary with Seongnam City.

On June 6, while inspecting the installation plan and site around Bokjeong Station, Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “A refreshing and dignified pine forest that leaves a lasting first impression of Songpa should be created,” urging efforts to establish a high-quality street landscape.

Songpa-daero, symbolic of the district, is the main stage of the ‘Songpa-daero Premium Street Creation Project,’ a key pledge of the 8th local government administration, and a core road with 10 lanes in both directions. The district plans to realize the origin and identity of Songpa (松坡), meaning ‘pine hill,’ and create a dignified city boundary befitting the district’s status.

▲Bokjeong Intersection ▲Southern end of Jamsil Bridge have been selected as target sites. Both locations have heavy inbound and outbound traffic and represent the district’s gateways. The district will begin pine forest construction in September and plant about 100 pine trees within the year.

First, a majestic pine grove will be established on the slopes near Bokjeong Station, entering Songpa-gu from Seongnam. This area, previously a neglected space with disconnected sidewalks and overgrown brush, was a place people passed by without notice.

On the slopes where pines will be planted, a ‘fortress stone flowerbed’ reminiscent of Pungnap-dong and Mongchontoseong earthen fortresses from the Hanseong Baekje period, reflecting the district’s historical identity, will be created. Additional pine groves will be planted on the traffic island, which will become a ‘pine garden,’ to create a distinctive landscape. Various flowering shrubs, herbaceous plants, and ornamental stones will be harmoniously arranged to ensure a colorful and attractive scenery throughout all four seasons.

At the southern end of Jamsil Bridge, dense pine trees will be planted along both sides of Songpa-daero. Existing weeds and brush will be neatly cleared, and pine groves and boulders will be added to complement the previously single-row planting along the sidewalk, transforming the area into a naturally varied landscape.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “This coming winter, the evergreen pine groves will energetically welcome visitors at the gateway of Songpa-daero,” adding, “We will do our best until completion so that the street landscape seen through car windows can offer residents daily rest and happiness.”
