Chungnam Teachers' Union: Over 80% of Teachers Oppose Neulbom School

Survey of 304 School Staff: "Administrative Tasks Should Be Separated from Teachers"

Chungnam Teachers' Union: Over 80% of Teachers Oppose Neulbom School

With the full implementation of Neulbom School starting from the second semester, negative voices continue to be heard at schools.

The Chungnam Federation of Teachers' Associations announced on the 20th the results of a survey on the implementation of Neulbom School, conducted from the 23rd of last month to the 2nd of this month. A total of 304 teachers participated in the survey, including 92 teachers from schools operating Neulbom School.

More than 80% of respondents expressed opposition to the Neulbom School policy and the Chungnam-style Neulbom School operation plan.

Teachers cited reasons for their opposition such as increased confusion in schools due to the Ministry of Education's unclear plans, policies that do not consider students' developmental stages and psychology, and excessive workloads for teachers.

Regarding the operation of Neulbom School in the first semester, there were mostly positive opinions in terms of care, but negative opinions prevailed in terms of educational aspects.

The biggest issue with Neulbom School was lack of space, cited by 50% of respondents, followed by excessive teacher workload, instructor recruitment and management, and conflicts among staff due to work.

As for what the Office of Education should support for the full implementation of Neulbom School, 'separation of duties from teachers' was the most cited at 74.3%. This result appears to be due to the fact that, contrary to the policy direction of fully transferring duties to dedicated Neulbom staff, many tasks are still being shifted to teachers.

Lee Junkwon, president of Chungnam Teachers' Association, emphasized, "The current Neulbom School policy could cause conflicts among staff," and added, "It is necessary to clarify the roles of the parties operating Neulbom School, such as excluding teachers from Neulbom School duties."
