Appointment of Lawyer Yoon Yong-seop as New Chairman of the National Police Commission

The government announced on the 20th that it has appointed lawyer Yoon Yong-seop of the law firm Yulchon and former Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Kim Jeong-seok as members of the National Police Commission.

The National Police Commission held its 546th extraordinary meeting and elected Commissioner Yoon as the new chairman. Chairman Yoon stated, "I will seek ways to serve the national interest and consider what the public expects from the police," adding, "I will support our police so that they can perform their duties with pride and a sense of fulfillment."


The National Police Commission is a collegial body established under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to ensure the political neutrality of the police and the democratic and fair operation of police affairs. It exercises the authority to deliberate and decide on major national police policies, consent to the appointment recommendation of the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, and recommend members of the city and provincial autonomous police commissions.


The National Police Commission consists of a total of seven members, including one chairman. The chairman is to be elected from among the non-standing members by mutual vote.
