Bitgwa Electronics, a specialized manufacturer of optical communication module components (CEO Park Chan-hee), announced on the 20th that it has been selected as a leading company for the 2024 Supply Chain Stabilization Project by the Ministry of Science and ICT. The validity period of the selection is until August 13, 2027.
This project was simultaneously conducted by 14 related government ministries to select companies eligible for focused government financial, fiscal, and tax support for supply chain stabilization under Articles 19 and 20 of the "Basic Act on Support for Supply Chain Stabilization for Economic Security." The aim is to contribute to the smooth introduction, production, and provision of economic security items and economic security services.
By being selected for this project targeting 10G/25G full-band wavelength tunable optical transceivers, the company has established a foundation to stabilize the introduction, production, and provision of wavelength tunable light sources, which are core components of related optical transceiver products. The wavelength tunable light source is a key component accounting for more than 70% of the price of related optical transceivers and is produced only by a limited number of optical-related companies, including those in the U.S. and China, making it essential to secure a stable supply source.
The company has led the optical communication market by developing various wavelength tunable optical transceivers, including 4-wavelength tunable optical transceivers and narrowband tunable optical transceiver products, in addition to 100G high-end products.
This year, the company developed and launched a 25G optical transceiver product capable of full-band wavelength tuning in the C-band and is actively registering customers. It is expected to lead related optical transceiver technology and contribute to the evolution of domestic and international optical communication networks.
A company representative stated, "Wavelength tunable optical transceivers are expected to provide a groundbreaking foundation for entering the full-spectrum optical communication network market, moving away from existing fixed DWDM wavelength products. Being selected as a leading company for supply chain stabilization is expected to provide an opportunity to secure stable funding to reliably procure core wavelength tunable light sources."
Meanwhile, the company is steadily developing technologies to enter the high-end product market of 100G/400G as well as the wired and wireless markets, including the upcoming 5G-Advance and 6G markets. It is also accelerating development of a wavelength tunable optical transceiver product capable of transmission up to 20km in the 25G C-band, aiming for mass production in December.
