World-Class Recharlie Jung Kailash, Golden Swing Band Invited
The Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism’s Jirisan Cheoneunsa Temple (Head Monk Daejin) announced that it will host a jazz festival on August 30-31 at 7 PM in the square in front of Cheoneunsa’s Iljumun Gate, inviting world-class jazz groups O:neul, LIME XL, Charlie Jung Kailash Band, and Golden Swing Band.
The evening scenery of Cheoneunsa, a thousand-year-old temple in Jirisan, possesses an indescribable beauty. Since the abolition of the cultural heritage admission fee, Cheoneunsa has created a path of coexistence and installed landscape lighting with the Iljumun Gate and pine forest as a backdrop, establishing itself as a healing tourist destination.
Recently, Cheoneunsa has been hosting music festivals in various genres such as classical, pop, EDM, and jazz, becoming a representative cultural temple of Jirisan and receiving great responses from residents of Gurye County and tourists who crave cultural experiences.
Head Monk Daejin of Cheoneunsa stated, “To continue the jazz festivals in Jirisan, the small-scale performances held in spring are named ‘Jirisan Jazz in the Spring,’ and the festival held on the outdoor stage between summer and autumn is called the ‘Jirisan Jazz Festival.’ We will continue to hold jazz performances every year at Jirisan Cheoneunsa in Gurye.”
The slogan of the ‘2024 Jirisan Jazz Festival,’ ‘Solitude’ (孤獨), refers not to loneliness imposed by others but to voluntary solitude, a desire to rest and be alone by one’s own will.
For those weary from the hardships of life or needing a break from stress, the ‘2024 Jazz Festival’ and the ‘two days of freedom’ offered are benefits of solitude. Moreover, solitude provides time for reflection, spiritual growth, and self-examination.
We invite you to immerse yourself fully in jazz at Cheoneunsa, located in Jirisan with its pine forests and clear flowing waters, during the ‘2024 Jazz Festival.’
