Prosecutors Demand 2-Year Prison Sentence for Farmer Group Leader Clashing with Police During Protest

Charge of Obstruction of Official Duties
First Trial Verdict on the 10th of Next Month

The prosecution has requested a prison sentence for a farmer organization official who was put on trial for colliding with police while driving a vehicle loaded with agricultural machinery during a rally in front of the National Assembly.

On the 20th, Judge Kim Jae-eun of the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 13 held the first trial for Kim Jae-young, Secretary General of the Busan-Gyeongnam Federation of the National Peasants' Federation, who was detained and indicted on charges of obstructing official duties. The prosecution requested a two-year prison sentence.


Earlier, on the afternoon of the 4th of last month, Secretary General Kim drove a vehicle loaded with agricultural machinery at the '7.4 National Farmers' Rally' held in front of the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, and collided with police officers who tried to stop him. At that time, the National Peasants' Federation and other farmer organizations held the rally to condemn the government's policy of expanding imported agricultural products.


The first trial verdict for Secretary General Kim is scheduled to be held at 1:55 p.m. on the 10th of next month.
