Boryeong City, Chungnam Province, announced on the 20th that the 'Manse Boryeong Cultural Festival' will be held from October 4 to 5 at the Boryeong Sports Complex and the Boryeong Culture and Arts Center.
Due to COVID-19, the city was unable to hold the Manse Boryeong Cultural Festival for six years, but after a steering committee meeting on the 16th, it was decided to resume the event this year.
This year's festival will be held under the following themes: a 'Cultural Festival' where various genres of culture and art come together; a 'Harmony Festival' in which all citizens participate and communicate; a 'Love for Hometown Festival' that promotes the culture and history of the region and continues its traditions; and a 'Luxury Festival' that aims for a new leap forward as a global premium city.
Associated events include a traditional Chungcheong Suyeong tavern, local cultural heritage rubbing experiences, writing family mottos, Tojeong Cafe, local specialty product exhibitions and sales, health check-ups, traditional paper craft experiences, military operation equipment displays, and first aid experiences, among other diverse programs.
There will also be experiences such as making Dasik (traditional Korean tea snacks), survival games, drone experiences, making lanterns, Korean archery, and a photo exhibition of memories from the Manse Boryeong Cultural Festival.
Notably, this year's festival has eliminated all ball sports except for some track and field events to create a program that everyone can enjoy together and promote unity.
In addition, from October 4 to 6, the 27th Boryeong Arts Festival, hosted by the Boryeong branch of the Korea Federation of Arts and Culture Organizations, will be held in conjunction, offering citizens even more attractions.
Mayor Kim Dongil said, "The Manse Boryeong Cultural Festival is a true venue for citizen harmony and communication, and a time to redefine our region's unique spirit," adding, "Please do your best to prepare the event so that all citizens can participate and enjoy."
Meanwhile, the Manse Boryeong Cultural Festival has been held annually since 1988 and biennially since 2000. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was suspended after its 20th edition in 2018, but it will be held again this year for the first time in six years, continuing as a representative local festival alongside the Boryeong Mud Festival.
