Korean Language Education for Foreign Workers at Gunsan, Noksan, and Daebul Industrial Complexes
The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation announced on the 20th that it recognizes the changes in industrial sites due to the increase in foreign workers and is supporting industrial complex safety design projects, Korean language education for foreign workers, and health management.
First, the industrial complex safety design project is a program that supports the introduction of safety design in industrial sites by analyzing psychological factors to help workers avoid risks they may not perceive. For example, a semiconductor parts manufacturing company located in Incheon Namdong National Industrial Complex installed LED evacuation guide lights to clearly show evacuation routes in case of fire, and added emergency exits to allow escape through other routes even if the main exits are blocked by fire.
About 100 foreign workers and their families from Namdong National Industrial Complex are receiving health checkups at the Incheon Regional Headquarters of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation.
Also, foreign workers working in Gunsan National Industrial Complex and Daebul National Industrial Complex are learning Korean through collaboration between the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, nearby regional universities, and the Shipbuilding and Marine Equipment Cooperative. The Korea Industrial Complex Corporation plans to support Korean language education necessary for job duties and certification acquisition for foreign workers. Korean language education will also be expanded to Noksan National Industrial Complex and others.
On the 18th, a health checkup was conducted for foreign workers and their families in Namdong National Industrial Complex. About 100 people participated in the health checkup, which included blood tests, electrocardiograms,·bone density·and dental examinations to assess health status, followed by free provision of prescribed medicines if needed. Interpretation support in seven languages including Thai, Vietnamese, and Filipino was also provided to assist medical staff and foreign patients in medical consultations.
On May 28th, 236 foreign workers in Daebul National Industrial Complex underwent tuberculosis testing. The tuberculosis screening for foreign workers in Daebul Industrial Complex has been conducted continuously for three years since 2021, with a cumulative total of 7,823 users.
Lee Sang-hoon, Chairman of the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation, said, “We will promptly identify changes in the employment environment and industrial safety demands caused by the increase of foreign workers in industrial complexes and discover and promote support projects needed by resident companies.” He added, “We will actively implement government-led safety management measures to create industrial complexes where resident companies and workers can feel safe.”
