Despite Challenges Like Jellyfish Sightings, Various Events Attract Vacationers
The seven beaches under the jurisdiction of Yeongdeok County, which opened on the 12th of last month, all closed simultaneously on the 18th, marking the end of their 38-day operation.
This year, there were concerns that most beaches nationwide would suffer significant losses due to the mass appearance of venomous jellyfish such as Nomura's jellyfish and moon jellyfish. However, Yeongdeok County succeeded in attracting visitors, recording a cumulative total of about 150,000 visitors.
During the same period, Yeongdeok County allocated emergency funds to combat jellyfish, installed double-layered jellyfish prevention nets at the beaches, and provided protective suits to safety personnel responsible for jellyfish removal as part of proactive measures to minimize jellyfish-related damage.
In addition, the county strengthened the capabilities of water safety personnel, conducted joint rescue drills, and established a close cooperation system to thoroughly prevent safety accidents. Various family-oriented events, tailored to the unique characteristics and strengths of each beach, also captivated vacationers.
In particular, the beach festival at Goraebul Beach, the lily picking experience, the beach soccer tournament, the beach music festival and youth gathering at Daejin Beach, and the barbecue festival and children's pool at Jangsa Beach provided enjoyment and memories that helped visitors forget the midsummer heat.
County Governor Kim Kwangyeol said, "Despite various difficulties, we will do our best to maintain the beach environment and conditions at their best so that the many people who remember our clean sea and beautiful sandy beaches and return to Yeongdeok will not be disappointed."
Even after the simultaneous closure of the beaches under its jurisdiction, Yeongdeok County plans to maintain its safety management system and inspections until the 25th for visitors who continue to come, and to deploy additional water safety personnel to prevent accidents.
